Apple Wallet Pass

A digital pass stored in Apple's built-in Wallet app, used for loyalty cards, boarding passes, event tickets, and coupons.

Apple Wallet (formerly Passbook) is a built-in app on every iPhone. It stores passes — digital representations of physical cards, tickets, and coupons. A loyalty card created as an Apple Wallet pass lives alongside boarding passes and payment cards, accessible from the lock screen without opening any app.

For businesses, Apple Wallet passes offer three critical capabilities. First, lock-screen notifications: when a pass is relevant — either by location or time — iOS surfaces it on the lock screen automatically. Second, automatic updates: if you change a reward or update the pass design, it refreshes on every customer's phone. Third, NFC and QR support: passes can be scanned or tapped for fast checkout.

Apple Wallet passes use the .pkpass format, a standardised package that includes pass design, data fields, and update URLs. Loyal-T Cards generates and manages these passes automatically — businesses never touch the technical layer.
